You and I will work together to create a portrait!
. . . what kind of portrait will it be? An institutional or formal portrait? A casual portrait? Will this be a portrait of a child,or is this a glamor portrait? We need to establish the mood, the personality that I will be painting or drawing. What elements will be included that help tell the story of who you or the subject is?
I work from reference photographs. You might have something great to work from, if you don't, I can meet and take a series of shots. You may work with a photographer in your area, I would communicate with you and the photographer to end up with what we need to work with.
Once we have an idea of what we are creating. I can do a sketch or 'study' using pencil or pastel to show layout and color. Some of this thought process may take place before the reference photos are taken.
I can work with charcoal or pencil, pastels, or oil. Pricing is lowest to highest accordingly. Naturally, pricing is also driven by how large and complex the work is. Whether it is a head and shoulders portrait, a three quarters portrait, or a full figure portrait is one of the considerations. Size is a factor, will this be a 16 x 20 inch or a 6 foot tall painting? Will there be a background scene or environment? Does a background help tell a story, or would we rather have a plain color that would bring the focus totally on the subject? (I like both) Any other highly complicated element in the portrait could cost slightly more, such as elaborate clothing or even hair.
Pricing is something we will need to discuss. I would ask for a third down to start, (non-refundable) the second third as I go into the finished portrait, and the balance on delivery. The project may take several weeks or months to complete. Any travel expenses, framing, and shipping will be in addition to the price of the portrait.
